Welcome to St. James! Whether you are looking for a new church home or are just curious about what St. James has to offer, our doors are open to you. We extend a special welcome to those who know and love the Episcopal Church – as well as those who think we don't sing as well as the Lutherans, can't preach as well as the Methodists, are a knockoff of the Catholics, and aren't as lively as the Baptists. Still, we're pretty sure our coffee hours take a backseat to no one.
We welcome you, even if you haven't been to church in a long, long time, can't believe we start so early, don't understand why the service takes a full hour, and would really rather be home watching the Broncos.
We welcome you, even if you're too old to drive after dark, too broke to put some money in the offering plate, too arthritic to kneel, too tone deaf to sing or too preoccupied with the cares of the world to really pay attention. We welcome you even if you only came because the Red Lobster down the street hasn't yet opened for lunch.
We welcome Republicans and Democrats, high churchers and low churchers, those just out of college and those just out of prison, Colorado natives and all of the 2 million or so newcomers who seem to have moved to Denver in the past 12 months.
We especially welcome you if, at sometime in your past, the church did something to you that crushed your spirit, wounded your heart, and cursed you with a burning resentment that continues to this day. Thank you for giving us another chance: A chance to make amends; a chance to try to make whole that which was broken; a chance to help make new that which had grown old; a chance to lift up that which had been cast down; a chance to bring about reconciliation, forgiveness and peace. We like to think that's really what we do best – even better than coffee hour.
Thank you for taking the time to check out our community, to get to know us, and to stand beside us as we enter into the timeless mystery of our faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We hope you will too.
